Neptune Transit in Your Natal Chart: What It Feels Like, Looks Like, and Does to a Life
The Cycles of Change Transits Series: Neptune
Neptune is the energy of fluid connection. Under this energy, we have no boundaries; we are all at one with the Universe. What is real and what is imagined all becomes one experience. Are we in a dream, or are we in “real life?” Neptune cannot answer that question because this energy literally erases all sense of 3D reality.
This is where we feel and know there is a higher power, a God, a Universe, a divine love that unites all beings into one giant ball of oneness. Neptune brings out the idealist in all of us. There is no this or that, just love, connection, and God, Source, Universe, whatever word makes the most sense to you.
When Neptune is transiting something in your natal chart, it dissolves boundaries and ideas around material reality, and moves us into the world of imagination, connection, love, and fluid experience. This idealistic energy gives to everyone with selfless generosity. It sees the best in everyone, as it doesn’t have the capability to understand that not everyone is going to give selflessly in return.
Under this energy we tend to want to escape from the material world, into our inner world, and into only feelings of divine oneness. For some, this is a spiritual experience, and that can mean different things to different people. Do you love love? Do you see only the good in everyone only to be blindsided by the person who doesn’t return the sentiment? Do you find ways to escape and bring the body and the mind out of tune with the concrete third-dimensional experience? Do you find yourself reaching for substances to soften the edges of reality? We feel and see a need for an escape with Neptune calling the shots, and escape can mean different things to different people.
How A Neptune Transit to Your Natal Chart Shows Up In Life
When you are going through a Neptune transit, it can show up in a number of different ways, depending on the planets it’s aspecting and the houses, etc. But let’s talk about some overall examples that provide a baseline understanding that can be applied to any transit.
When you are going through a Neptune transit, you could feel like life is slowing down for you. A feeling of sluggishness or “pausing.” Neptune slows things down, whether we want to or not. It pushes us inward, away from the ego identity, and it forces us to get rid of those ideas that we cling to when it comes to our egos. It will also ask us to let go of parts of our identity and ego that we once thought were important.
It gets rid of things in life that we think are important or that we cling to because we fear change. It essentially pulls the rug out from under us, leaving us seemingly emotionally naked, with nowhere else to go but into our own surrender. It is in this surrender that we find the help and support we need. The full and complete surrender of what our ego thinks we should do, into blind faith.
Under a Neptune transit, you have to go with the waves, up and down, not really knowing what is coming next. You are forced to live on a level of faith that you are not typically used to in this reality. The material world’s guarantees disappear, and only the idea of living with faith in the moment is available to you. It could be a time when your spiritual pursuits take center stage, and you slow down. Think of the long, silent retreat, giving up all material possessions and sitting with your own sense of connection with the Universe.
Falling in love during this transit could mean not seeing any of the apparent flaws that your partner might exhibit. Lines are blurred, boundaries are dissolved, and only idealistic love is available. During this kind of transit, if love is involved, it’s best to let the transit run its course before you make any permanent decisions around commitment.
This rings true for all areas of life this transit may touch, as lines are blurred and realities are distorted in such a way that big decisions around commitment and contracts could require some time to let the fog clear before acting. Below is a chart of the significations of the houses. Find which houses the transit is affecting in your chart, and those will be the areas of life this transit will likely affect. If you don’t know how to determine this, simply start with the natal planet that Neptune is aspecting, and look to the house the natal planet is in, and the houses the natal planet rules. This will give you a good idea of what to expect and where.

What a Neptune Transit Does to the Body
During a Neptune transit, the body could slow down exponentially. It doesn’t necessarily mean the body will be affected, but if it’s affecting matters of the 1st or 6th houses (or the Moon), it’s likely there will be effects on the body or on health. It’s not a time to worry about the body or to create problems that don’t already exist, but it is a time to pay special attention to the body if this does bring up topics around the 6th or 1st houses (or the Moon).
This can be a time to test your blind faith, and for some, this could mean feeling very anxious. With the rug of certainty being stripped out from beneath you, it could require you to learn how to live and sit in the moment. Nervous system calming and regulating techniques will be really helpful during this time. I talk about some of my favorite ways to create regulation in the body here:
You might also find yourself pushed into scenarios where you take it slower, get deeper into your intuition, and your creativity. It asks you to go with the flow of life in a way that allows you to see beyond the external certainties and into the unseen and unknown realms where anything is possible. When it comes to the body, this could mean long yoga retreats, plant medicine, and a time when you slow it all down to regulate your internal world. Much of this is about grounding your body and being intentional about what you do and why you do it. You are now paying attention to the things that you didn’t previously notice when you were moving fast through life.
This is a time to check in with the body and ask it what it needs. If you aren’t good at this kind of practice, this transit will help nudge you along. As mentioned above, you will likely be asked to give up the firm certainties of life in exchange for more slowness and faith. Take this time to develop your intuition, and connect that to the body. You can communicate with the body and the world around you through energy, thought, and intention. This is the perfect transit to start!
